Welcome to the first issue of The Compliance Brief — a monthly resource for skilled nursing facility administrators, Directors of Nursing, and compliance officers who want to stay ahead of PCREE and Life Safety Code requirements. We'll keep it short, practical, and survey-ready.

PCREE — Patient Care Related Electrical Equipment — is a compliance requirement that applies to virtually every electrically powered device in your resident care areas, including beds, lifts, infusion pumps, and the outlets they plug into. Our new guide explains exactly what testing is required, how often, who can perform it, and what documentation surveyors expect to see — in plain language, without the regulatory jargon.
Compliance Tip of the Month
The #1 Documentation Mistake That Gets SNFs Cited
The most common PCREE citation isn't a failed piece of equipment — it's a missing name. When surveyors review your testing logs, they'll ask who performed each test and whether that person had documented qualifications. If your records list "maintenance staff" or contain no technician credential, the entire testing record can be challenged. Before your next survey, confirm that every entry in your PCREE log includes the technician's full name, credential or training type, and employer documentation. A 10-minute audit now can prevent a costly Plan of Correction later.
